Buddha Face

Welcome to the Gay Buddhist Sangha! Sangha is a Sanskrit word that means "community."  It was used in the Buddha's time to refer to the community of monks who followed the Buddha's path, and is still in use today.  We are a lay group, however, not a community of monks.  But we call ourselves a Sangha because we are a group of  LGBT folk who, like the historical Buddha's Sangha, try to support each other in our practice as we explore together the Buddha way.

Some of us have been following this path for many years, while others are just beginning their exploration. We are a nonsectarian group.  Some of us practice in the various traditions of Buddhism that have developed through the centuries. Some of us practice in none of these traditions, looking toward what will eventually become a Western Buddhist tradition. Through our Everyday Dharma gatherings, dharma study groups, periodic retreats and other activities, we hope the Sangha will serve as a gateway to a fuller understanding of the Buddha's teachings.

A good place to start, if you are new to Buddhism, would be our Sunday afternoon Everyday Dharma meeting.  (Dharma is also a Sanskrit word that means universal law or truth.)  We feel that having the mind of a beginner and enthusiastic perseverance are keys to embodying the Buddha’s teachings.  We seek to foster these attitudes and behaviors in our Sangha by challenging and supporting each other.

We invite you to contribute to our Sangha through attendance at any of our activities. The Sangha exists only through your participation.  You may also contribute financially, as fits your budget, and/or by volunteering to help with our various activities. Your contributions will help to support the on-going activities of our Sangha.

We hope that you will consider participating in these programs.  Let your practice, quality of life, and authentic self be of utmost importance. Discover and cultivate the wisdom of your heart. Come and share this unique and joyful opportunity with us.  Walk along the path of the Buddha with your Dharma sisters and brothers for the benefit of all beings.
